Tanzania Safari FAQs

Tanzania is a year-round safari destination. The best time depends on what you want to see:

  • June – October: Dry season, best for wildlife viewing as animals gather near water sources.

  • December – March: Calving season in the Serengeti, great for witnessing baby animals and predator action.

  • April – May: Green season with fewer crowds and lush scenery (some lodges may close due to rains).

Yes. Most visitors require a tourist visa, which can be obtained online (e-visa) or on arrival at major entry points like Kilimanjaro International Airport. We recommend applying online in advance.

  • Yellow Fever: Proof of vaccination may be required if you are arriving from a yellow fever risk country.

  • Recommended: Hepatitis A & B, Typhoid, Tetanus, and Rabies. Malaria prevention is strongly advised—please consult your doctor before traveling.

  • Light, neutral-colored clothing (avoid bright or dark colors).

  • A warm jacket for early morning and evening game drives.

  • Comfortable walking shoes.

  • Sun protection: hat, sunglasses, sunscreen.

  • Binoculars, camera, spare batteries, and memory cards.

  • Personal medication, including malaria prophylaxis.

  • Our packages usually include:

    • Accommodation (lodges, tented camps, or hotels as per itinerary).

    • All meals during safari.

    • Park entry fees.

    • Professional English-speaking driver-guide.

    • Safari vehicle with pop-up roof for game viewing.

    • Bottled drinking water during game drives.

  • Absolutely. Serengeti Sunrise Safaris specializes in customizing itineraries based on your interests—whether it’s the Great Migration, photography safaris, cultural tours, or luxury lodges.

  • The Great Migration is the annual movement of over 1.5 million wildebeest and hundreds of thousands of zebras and gazelles across the Serengeti and Masai Mara in search of fresh grazing.

    • December – March: Calving season in Southern Serengeti.

    • April – June: Migration moves through Central & Western Serengeti.

    • July – October: River crossings in Northern Serengeti (Mara River).

    • November: Herds return south.

  • We recommend a minimum of 5–7 days to enjoy Tanzania’s highlights. Shorter trips (3–4 days) are possible for a quick Serengeti or Ngorongoro safari, while 8–12 days allow you to combine several parks and even add Zanzibar.

  • Tanzania offers a wide range of safari accommodations:

    • Budget: Public campsites and basic tented camps.

    • Mid-range: Comfortable lodges and tented camps.

    • Luxury: Exclusive tented camps and lodges with premium amenities.

    • Fly-in Luxury Camps: Remote luxury camps accessible by bush plane.

    • Early morning: Sunrise game drive (best time for predators).

    • Late morning: Breakfast and relaxation at camp.

    • Afternoon: Game drive until sunset.

    • Evening: Dinner and overnight in your lodge or camp.
Some itineraries also include full-day safaris with picnic lunches in the bush.
